we watched another old favorite. Apollo 13. Apollo 13 is one of the few movies i know that i will almost always watch. if i'm going around the dial and i see this movie playing i usually think "oh this is the good part. i'll watch this." and then i think "oh this part is coming up, i'll watch that." and i end up watching the rest of the movie.
i think my favorite line is "are we on vox?"
the party scene at the beginning of the movie reminds me so much of the parties my parents threw when i was a kid. my dad was in the Army and Jim Lovell (the Tom Hanks character) was in the Navy. My dad served from about 1950 to 1972 and Jim Lovell served in the Navy from about 1952 to 1962 and then in NASA from 1962 to 1973.
elizabeth and i sometimes watch the "space trilogy": The Right Stuff, The Dish, and Apollo 13. The Right Stuff and Apollo 13 each one a few Oscars and each was nominated as Best Picture. The Dish is an Australian movie from 2000. Essentially a comedy, it won a great number of awards in Australia but is little known in the US. However, The Dish may be the best movie of the three.
