breakfast, thursday, september 3

trying to avoid bagels for breakfast.

scrambled eggs (2)
ketchup
whole wheat toast
oj
coffee
iced tea

tv came on immediately and worked for 90 minutes so i watched the weather and the news.

while i'm so busy not giving a shit about sarah palin, i find out that i'm now supposed to also be making at least a good faith effort to not give a shit about levi johnston. jeez.

it took me weeks to find out that the "jon" and the "kate" that everybody was talking about as if i should know who they were, were those god-awful non-entities from that piece of shit "reality show".

general rule: if some one is on a reality show please identify them by a full name and a brief description. there are a whole bunch of people who don't watch big brother or refurbish that abode or whatever. i've only recently figured out that that guy that looks like ryan seacrest on that show is really ryan seacrest but there's another guy on another show who looks like ryan seacrest but isn't ryan seacrest. they'll have to introduce a product called i can't believe it's not ryan seacrest.

by the way, why do they still call it mtv

dinner, wednesday, sep. 2

beans
iced tea

i really like bush's vegetarian beans.

i guess this software is adding HTML or XHTML in the background. i wonder how it deals with the ampersand above. does it escape it as cdata or entify or just not bother about data validity? i'll have to figure out how to view the coded data once upon a time.

breakfast, tuesday, september 2

it's hard to type "september". i keep thinking it is still august.

it really has felt like fall the last few days.

bagel w/ cream cheese (i find i like less and less cream cheese on a bagel)
banana (i wish there were another fruit as reliable as the banana)
oj
coffee
iced tea

note: i have coffee with half and half and splenda. i always drink unsweetened tea. lately i've been mixing one earl grey (twinings) with two lipton or two luzianne. very bien, if you know what i mean.

i'm trying to break the bagel habit. i understand that protein and whole grain is the way to go at breakfast. i'm trying to switch over but i really do like that bagel first thing in the ack emma.

The Weigh In

I finally worked up the nerve to step on a scale. The result was not pleasant.

Wednesday, Sep. 2, 2009, 5:30 am: 328 pounds

If my math is right that is 149 kg.

Ouch!

I repeat:

Ouch!

I weighed 270 pounds in July of 2008. That's a gain of 58 pounds.

I feel very comfortable at 210 pounds so for my money I'm 128 pounds to the bad. The charts say I should weigh 178 but those numbers don't work for me. I was in great shape in college and weighed 190.

As Charlie Lau says in Max Dugan Returns: "You have got to be positive and aggressive." So I need to be positive and aggressive.

Short term goal: 10 pounds (318) by Oct. 1
Mid term goal: 28 pounds (300) by Dec. 1

Doesn't seem reasonable to talk about long term goals at this point.

action items:

1. firm up diet, count calories, avoid sugar, fat, and excessive carbs
2. start doing yoga again, try pilates, get in the pool

I lost 50 pounds in the early 90s. I lost 80 pounds between 98 and 2000. I can lose the weight. It's the starting that's TOUGH!

01 September 2009

meals, monday, august 31, 2009

one year ago on this day I was returning from Laos. I actually arrived in the US on the last Sunday in August but the layover and flight from SF to DCA took me from Sunday to Monday. Last year the Monday was the 1st of September and happened to be Labor Day.

No such adventure this year. Of course, I was not in shape for such an adventure this year.

breakfast

toast
coffee
iced tea
oj
banana

lunch

spicy korean w/ chicken and brown rice at Pei Wei (excellent)
green tea
coke (didn't like the green tea!)

(I'm pretty much a black tea kind of guy. Don't really like green. Don't really like herbal.)

dinner

ft long sub at subway (spicy italian)
iced tea

pudding for dessert
