i woke up at about 6:30. started working on the computer right away. i had figured out how to do something while i was asleep and wanted to try it before i forgot it. it worked ok.

i fell asleep last night without the mask. i woke up at 4:45 and put the mask on. by that time to oxygen concentrator was making the air grow hot. i'll have to remember to turn on the concentrator when i put on the mask.

very tasty. the corn was cut off of the cob and sauteed. comes out very well that way.

we watched the end of our mutual friend during dinner. i'm pretty sure mortimer lightwood is the mutual friend but i don't know. plot is actually a little silly. the motivations of a number of the characters are essentially unaccountable. but the general impression is quite nice. some very moving parts to the story.

i did not want to get up on friday morning. felt pretty badly. quite tired from the trip to n.n. i got up at 6:30.

we got to the vre on time. i skipped planet fitness. had to run home to go to the bathroom. just barely made it. felt terrible for about 30 minutes. took pepto. started to feel a little better after a while.

had an interview at 3:00 for a part time job. 103 degrees when i got to the store. interesting interview. interviewer was actually an intern. full-time student at VT.

i slept better with the extra pillows. used the bipap for 5-6 hours. i woke up at 4:30 and again at 5:30. i was thinking about all the things that needed to be done. i finally got up at 6:00 when i could see the light outside.

i went to hardee's for breakfast. very hungry.

fried bologna was excellent! i should have skipped the cinnamon raisin. not nearly as good as they used to be.

i went looking for the dav building after breakfast. i found the thrif shop but not the chapter.

i got $20 at wachovia on the way back to the house.

i finished packing the vhs tapes for the dav. i packed all the other dav stuff in the car. packed my stuff in the trunk. car was overflowing.

i took a shower and then cleaned the floor. i was running a little bit behind. i actually had a wave of sadness as i walked through and checked the rooms. the shed out back (former home of the dryer) really hit me hard for some reason. amazing how small it is empty. we really packed stuff in there.

is used to have a feeling like that warehouse in Indiana Jones.

i finally got everything in the car and did a last check through. i was a bit late by this time. as i left i met Kip. i think he went to Denbigh with Scott and Glenn. Nice guy.

i got to the rehab a little after 9:00. we left by about 9:15. i had to sign mommy out of the rehab. apparently they forgot on wednesday. we got to the office in plenty of time. it's across the street from the new mall on jefferson avenue.

like the other office i was in yesterday it was not handicapped accessible.

the appointment went well. we got back around 10:45. mommy wanted to lie down at that point.

i decided to go to the dav at that time. i found it ok. it's a little past the stonybrook entrance. i turned in the stuff to a taciturn bloke. didn't really acknowledge in any way. so you're very welcome.

i stopped at ihop across the street for lunch.

i got back to the rehab at around 12:30. she was in p.t. when i got back.

mommy's friends cathy and jimmy arrived while she was in the work out room. they visited for nearly two hours. cathy started to cry as soon as she was out of mommy's line of view.

we had the care planning meeting at 2:00. very quick. she is likely to be released some time around Aug. 13. as long as she keeps making progress.

i tried to make some phone calls after the meeting but had trouble with her phone and couldn't get a signal on my cell. i said good by to mommy.

i stopped at a hardee's to try to make some phone calls. blazingly hot outside. since i still had no signal i turned off my phone and turned it back on. it reacquired the signal at that time. i called karen and gave her an update. i called elizabeth. i tried claire, scott, and glenn. i managed to get mark.

i slept ok but my back and my legs suffered pretty seriously. floor is extremely hard. i woke up at about 5:30 and went back to sleep until the alarm went off at 6:15.

i went to hardee's to get a bite.

i tried to turn off the cable and the phone. no can do. you need to know the last payment amount or the account number to turn off the phone. you have to be an authorized user to turn off the cable.

talked to Claire and Elizabeth in the morning.

i went to Kmart to get some pillows on the way to rehab. i got to the rehab a little after 10:00. mommy was sound asleep.

mommy woke up around 11:00. her lunch arrived at noon. i went to get something to eat at that time.

i got back to the rehab at 12:45. mommy was already ready to go to the doctor. i didn't want to leave until around 2:30 but mommy was quiet antsy. we left at 2:00. arrived 45 minutes early.

we arrived at 2:45. i had not properly updated the address. correct address is 2116.

the staff at the cardiologist's office was very nice. receptionist was very pretty. doctor reminded me of shelby foote.

the doctor was pretty happy with everthing he saw.

mommy did well on the trip each way. seemed to enjoy being out and i think it helped that she can now understand where she is w/ relation to the house.

i was worn out after the appointment. had to come to the house to box up the vhs cassettes for charles craft. i ran out of boxes! i'll try to get the rest boxed tomorrow am.

stopped at mcdonald's after mr. craft came by.

i went down oyster point to warwick blvd. and found another s.b.'s on the way.

i woke up at around 6:15 this morning. i slept pretty well. i had a long list of things to do today but i didn't feel very energetic.

i didn't know what would be available at mommy's house so i ended packing a lot of stuff.

went to wegmans around 10:30.

interesting but somewhat mistifying webinar about dita open toolkit from 1:00 to a little after 2:00.

i left for nn at about 2:45.

traffic went really well until i got to stafford. i stopped there to go to the bathroom. also felt hungry again.

made good time again until i went from 295 to 64. accident there slowed us down for just a short while. about 10 minutes to get by it. very smooth again until about 2 miles from ft. eustis. 15-20 minutes to go the last 2 miles.

i got to the rehab about 6:15. the rehab is part of a larger facility which is gated. gate guard was a nice guy he gave me a pass so i'd be able to get through the gate quickly.

the actual facility is new and attractive. i got to mommy's room while she was folding laundry. she looked pretty well and seems bright and cheerful. i thing she may get a little bored now and then.

We moved to a lounge area when guests came to visit her room mate. She was a little confused (I later realized it wasn't confusion but poor vision!). She kept thinking the lounger are was closed (actually the rehab hall). I pointed out the are I thought she was looking for but she thought it was the wrong way. We sat in an area where she had never sat before. After I while she was worried that Burt would not be able to find us so we went to her favored location.

Burt joined us around 7:00 or so. We talked until about 8:00. Mommy looked very tired then so we left for the evening. i got to the house and moved all of my stuff in by about 8:30. I called Betty then.

sitting in the empty house reminded me of when i moved to berwyn heights. i felt seriously sad for about 20-30 minutes. i finally got enough gumption to go upstairs after that. upstairs is absolutely empty.

i built a camp in the cleanest area of the living room. i hope to be able to sleep. the floor is hard.

the fan and the radio help. i found a classic rock station so i can sing along.

we got started fairly early moving the biggest branches up to the branch repository. spent about 45 minutes or so on that. elizabeth spent another hour or so working on the lighter branches

did the dishes after that and then mopped the floors downstairs.

i watched "the open championship" and the final of the women's world cup while working on the mopping. darren clarke won the open. i think he ended up winning by 4 strokes. the u.s. women led in the world cup most of the way but japan tied late and then won the penalty kicks. pretty good match. a little disappointing for the u.s. but very nice for japan. i hope it really gives the country a lift.

we were just sitting down to dinner when we realized that fred was working in the backyard. i went back to see if i could help. the man is indefatigable. he managed to pull the big branch down. then he came back over with a pole pruner with a chainsaw attachment and cleaned up the red bud near the deck. he started at 9:00 in the morning and i helped him just a little for about 45-60 min and he wore me out. amazing guy!

woke up when the alarm went off at 6:10. checked email early in the morning. no real updates about mommy but learned that karen and claire have decided to go to nn today. glenn was already going down.

elizabeth came down at about the same time this morning. this time we made the 7:39 light. it really makes a big difference. just 3 minutes one way or the other. 7:36 is the earliest we've ever made it. 7:39 is really the best time. 7:42 we almost always catch the train. 7:45 we see the train leaving the station.

went to the gym from vre. big power problem there. all of the treadmills were off line. three electricians working on the panel. notes about work-out are in the spreadsheet.

went to recycling and went to warrenton to check the parking rules at the public parking lot. 3 hrs in most of the lot. some parts are 1 or 2.

we watched a good poirot after that, death in the clouds. great pictures from paris. air travel seemed very glamorous back then.


just checking mail before going to bed. get an update about mommy. scary news. talking about releasing her from the hospital when she is really in no condition to return home. very worried!

i stopped at pet smart on the way over to the vre since elizabeth's train was running so late. i got the pet food.

vre station and piper lane were very busy. both e. and i were very hungry by the time we got out of the parking lot. we went to target to get a few key items. decided to have some pizza at target since it was so late.

i had an annoying cough when i went to bed last night. it kept causing a leak in the mask. kept having to readjust. finally took off the mask and fell asleep. cough better in the morning. hope it isn't one of those coughs that reappears every evening.

i woke up at around 6:00. i thought about getting up. decided to go back to sleep for a little. woke up at about 8:30 and went downstairs.

i woke up at about 5:30. very cold. pulled on the blanket and went back to sleep. woke up at about 7:00. thought i could sleep a little longer. actually woke up and got up at about 9:00. wacky.

picked up a lot of sticks in the yard before cutting the grass. couldn't do anything yet about the huge branch on the hill. chatted with fred for about 20 minutes. they just got back from upstate new york (way upstate new york) at 1 in the morning. he was really amazed at the down trees even though the house sitter had told him. he moved the big branch out front using his off road four wheeler.

i cut the grass a little shorter than usual. i like it. lets see if it looks ok in a few days.

we decided to go to culpeper this afternoon. weather was very nice and it's only about 45 minutes away. had to find out where the courthouse is anyway.

we had a pretty good walk around culpeper. i took a loop to see where the parking was around the courthouse. got a bit overheated walking in the sun. stopped at the frost cafe in culpeper and got an iced tea. elizabeth joined me there and gave me some tylenol. with the tea and the tylenol i felt better.

i got a call from karen while i was at the frost cafe. mommy is in the hospital again. appears to be congestive heart failure. she'll be in for at least a few days. we hope to be able to manage her move a bit sooner. the stairs in the old apartment are just getting to be too much. new place has an elevator and apartment is on one level.

i went to bed at about 9:15 with the power still off. i woke up at 12:30 and noticed a light on downstairs. too tired to go down and turn it out. went back to sleep.
