woke up at 6:10 when the alarm went off. don't feel well at all. achy. a little fever. stomach is churning. want to go back to bed for a few hours!

drove elizabeth to the vre. just made it to the bathroom at the chick-fil-a on the way book. got a large iced tea to try to calm my stomach. wish i'd bought the pepto yesterday.
went to the bank on the way home instead of the earlier plan. stopped at shopper's to get pepto while waiting for the bank to open. found out shoppers is closing on 2.18. they had to close. couldn't really compete,. they look like they've already closed. no produce. no deli. no bakery. no pharmacy. no soft drinks. probably no beer. I didn't go that far. talked to emma. she said a lot of people already quit and the remaining folks are either going to be relocated or laid off. maybe a whole foods will open in the space.
took two pepto at about 9:00. deposited check.
in the bathroom again at 10:00. oh boy.sleet falling most of the time i was out.
two more peptos at 12:00. stomach starting to feel better. consistent sleet on the window.

e called around 2:00 to say her office is closing early. snow falling and sticking in warrenton.
3:00 snow falling heavily. leave for VRE at 4:40. poor visibility. heavy snow. slick roads.
70 min to get to the VRE station. snowing heavily the whole time. started up vint hill on the way home. saw cars stuck on vint hill at sudley manor. drove part of the way up smd the wrong way! e got out and cleared the windows at one point on smd.
got stuck behind a stuck car on linton hall road. sat in the road with about a dozen cars until the car finally got moving. rt 29 was better. going well on 29 until one point where we nearly spun out. we were in 2nd gear but started to fishtail like crazy. elizabeth is yelling "steer into the skid" and it worked. luckily no cars around but we did see a pedestrian (what was he doing there? it was incredibly cold, incredibly dark, no houses in sight strange) who had scrambled over the guard rail seeing us coming! more thrills than i need. got home just before 8:00. exhausted. so happy to be on solid ground.

we watched john candy's bio and a nova program about reducing the size of technological gadgets. bed early.
