new year's day. warm, overcast.
woke up at 5:30. went back to sleep for a little while. woke up again at about 6:15. very hungry. went downstairs.

went out to try to pump some water off of the pool. suddenly had an episode of vertigo looking down at the ice in the pool. almost fell in. spell lasted for 20-30 min. then the sense of vertigo gradually went away. right mastoid process area feels tender. feels like someone injected co2 in the area. (like one of those devices for pulling a cork from a wine bottle.)
really felt poorly for about an hour. went to the computer. focusing on middle distance seemed to help. elizabeth woke me up at the computer after a while and told me to go to bed. i did and slept for several hours. very disoriented all day. felt much better after sleeping but the side of my head still hurt. (still a little sore now.)

we watched eyewitness on the free video on demand on comcast. william hurt, sigourney weaver, christopher plummer, james woods. it felt very late 70's early 80's. just looked it up: 1981. william hurt had just been in altered states and was just about to be in body heat. s.w. had been in alien in '79 and was about to be in the year of living dangerously.
very odd movie. very 80's paranoid. truly ludicrous plot but shared the manhattan vibe with movies like annie hall and taxi driver and the goodbye girl. very dark cinematography. felt kind of like a museum piece.
finished the girl who played with fire.very entertaining. really wished it had had a dramatis personae. lots of "speaking parts" and lots of fairly similar names. kept having to think about who was who.
